Korean National Commission for UNESCO (KNCU) appointed actress Lee Yong-ae as a special envoy on Monday.

KNCU decided to appoint Lee in recognition of her commitment in making donations and regularly participating in voluntary services.

Lee as a special envoy will join the charity campaign to provide education for children living in less developed countries and giving publicity to KNCU’s work.

“Lee who is assured to help out with the work that we do is a perfect fit for the job as she has been doing charity work and working to promote and preserve our culture,” said secretary-general Dong Seok-min, adding, “She will play an important role acting as a bridge between Korea and the rest of the world.”

Lee said she understands what KNCU does for underprivileged children living in Africa and hopes to be part of it.

As part of the initiative, Lee participated in filming for a short video containing a request for help and support, which is to be broadcast on T.V. on Nov. 11.
