Actress Shin Min-a donated a total of 1 billion won ($890,000) for disadvantaged children and deprived senior citizens over the course of seven years, charity organizations said.

Nonprofit organization Community Chest Korea said Wednesday that Shin was a consistent donor.

“Shin has been giving 2 million won monthly since December of 2009. At year-end she would donate extra an 50 million or 100 million,” said a CCK representative, “Celebrity donations are usually a one-time thing, but Shin has been a steady help for seven years.”

The aggregated sum of Shin’s seven years of charity totals nearly 720 million won. Following the actress’ wishes, CCK is using the donations to aid children and senior citizens living in difficult environments. The money covers their medical treatment, education and winter-time heating.

Shin is also donating to Good Friends, a private charity established to help North Korean defectors in order to nurture reconciliation and collaboration between the South and the North for peaceful reunification.

Good Friends said that Shin has given 290 million won since 2010.

Shin’s money is especially being used to support single-mother defectors in raising their children. Milk, after-school classes, medical aid and seasonal kimchi are among the things the organization provides.

The actress and philanthropist is eager to help whenever she can. During Nepal’s earthquake crisis in May, Shin gave 100 million won to nongovernmental organization Join Together Society to help the disaster-stricken region.

Most recently Shin participated in cosmetics brand Ohui’s “Beautiful Face Campaign” on Oct. 2, contributing 50 million won to the Seoul National University Children’s Hospital.

The 31-year-old Shin first debuted in 1998 as a magazine model. She debuted as an actress in 2001’s action comedy “Volcano High School.” Now a seasoned actress boasting 15 years in the business, Shin is garnering attention with her coming small screen work with KBS, “Oh My Venus,” in which she will pair up with actor So Ji-sub.

Meanwhile, Shin confirmed her relationship with actor Kim Woo-bin in July.
