Red Velvet, YB, Baek Ji-young, Ali among Korean artists to perform in Pyongyang
Seoul’s Unification Ministry revealed a list of K-pop groups and singers from South Korea who will join upcoming performances in Pyongyang.
The 160-member South Korean art troupe that is to perform in North Korea in early April includes K-pop act Red Velvet, balladeers Baek Ji-young and Jung-in, former Girls’ Generation member Seohyun, rock singer Yoon Do-hyun and veteran artists Cho Yong-pil and Lee Sun-hee, according to the ministry.
The decision came after the two Koreas held working-level talks Tuesday to discuss details of the Pyongyang performances.
Cho, Lee and Yoon have previously performed in the North.
Cho held a solo concert at the Ryugyong Chung Ju-yung Gymnasium in Pyongyang in 2005, while Lee took part in a joint concert in 2003 to commemorate the opening of the Ryugyong Chung Ju-yung
Gymnasium. Yoon participated in South Korean broadcaster MBC’s special show in the North’s capital in 2002.
In February, Seohyun shared a stage with the North’s Samjiyon Orchestra, led by Hyon Song-wol, head of the all-female Moranbong Band, at its concert in Seoul to celebrate the PyeongChang Winter Games.
Other K-pop groups, such as Sechskies, FIN.K.L, Shinhwa and Baby VOX, have performed in North Korea in the past.
The star-studded South Korean art troupe, led by popular singer and composer Yun Sang, will visit Pyongyang from March 31 to April 3 to perform at the Ryugyong Chung Ju-yung Gymnasium and East Pyongyang Grande Theatre.
