CL reveals 2NE1’s tearful ‘goodbye’ song was actually for Minzy
CL of now-defunct K-pop act 2NE1 revealed that the group’s last final single “Goodbye” before the disbandment in November last year was actually for her ex-bandmate Minzy.
The Thursday episode of tvN’s “Livin, the Double Life” featured CL opening up about how she felt for the group’s breakup at the time, shedding tears while talking about Minzy, who was the youngest among the group.
“I actually wrote the lyrics for ‘Goodbye’ in 10 minutes. The song was for fans as well, but honestly speaking, the words were what I wanted to say to Minzy,” she said.
“I thought at the time, ‘How hard it would be for her?’ And now, I hope she is happy and I support her. And if she’s going to be on her own, I hope she could show what she got.”
Formed under YG Entertainment, four-piece act 2NE1 had risen to stardom with its quirky and powerful image and hits like “I Am the Best,” “Fire,” “I Don’t Care,” “Falling in Love” and “Come Back Home.”
The group was considered the top K-pop girl group at the time, but it went on a long hiatus after Park Bom was embroiled in a drug smuggling scandal. Minzy left the group in April last year and 2NE1 put an end mark on its seven years of career in November the same year. Its final single “Goodbye” was released in January this year.
