Korean singer-songwriter Younha revealed Tuesday on her blog that she has suffered from nasal septum deviation for at least two years.

Younha added in the blog post that she will halt all activities and cancel all performance schedules so as not to “spoil any more performances.”

The 27-year-old was criticized for her “subpar” performance in JTBC’s old-pop music revisiting program “Two Yoo Project - Sugar Man,” in which she sung the defunct girl group BoBo’s “Late Regret.”

Below is the translation of Younha’s blog post:

Hello, this is Younha. It has been a long time. I have felt unsettled for the past several weeks, up to this point. First of all, I would like to apologize for my poor performance in the TV program “Sugar Man.” Many fans are concerned about my health and so I would like to open up about it.

Some have been saying that my style of singing has changed with my new role in the musical “Cinderella.” This makes sense. My singing habits have changed since I started to focus on the Cinderella role in the musical. But I am responsible for putting my habits back to what it used to be as a pop singer, in the same way that professional golfers adjust their stance to any field. I have found it difficult to control myself while singing. It was not like this in the past and so I was very anxious before filming the music show. I had already recorded the tracks I was supposed to sing on the “Sugar Man” stage and that was the best that I could do.

The other thing I would like to mention is my nasal problem, or nasal septum deviation, that has grown worse over the past two years. I can fix the problem by undergoing surgery but I do not have the time for that now. Undergoing surgery will mean that time is needed for me to recover and for my voice to return back to normal.

I suppose this blog post appears unprofessional, but there is one good thing. My throat is fine -- no vocal nodules were found in the last medical examination.

While on the musical stage, I only used the upper part of my throat, which means that the other parts of my throat remained idle. These days I’m focusing on training the usage of other parts of my throat. I am writing this letter to relieve the concerns of my fans. I will overcome this with a sense of confidence and return with my fifth album as a new and improved Younha.

I have also been asking senior musicians for advice, and they all said one thing in common -- that the only answer is to relax and practice daily. I’m not sure how long it will take, but I will return with my voice in a better condition. All my scheduled stage performances are currently canceled. It was hard to reject them, especially since it was people’s goodwill to give me such opportunities, but I felt that I had to do this because I did not want to ruin any more performances. I will take some time to reflect and concentrate on picking up the pieces. I promise to repay the support of my fans.

Thank you for reading all this, and I will be back with better music.

During the time I can’t sing, I will finish producing my fifth album.

Thank you for all the cheers and support. I am so honored to have you on my side.

From Younha
