American hero fantasy movie “Deadpool” stood at the first place in the Korean box office Thursday, beating Korean movie, “A Violent Prosecutor,” starring top-tier actors Gang Dong-won and Hwang Jung-min.

The action flick drew 250,811 viewers on the first day of its release Wednesday. It rode the momentum Thursday, by drawing 203,114 viewers, according to data from Korean Film Council. The film has racked in some 5.2 billion won ($4.24 million) since its release.

“A Violent Prosecutor,” which has dominated silver screens in Korea since it opened nationwide on Feb. 3, stepped down from the top notch to the second, by attracting 96,217 watchers Thursday. The comedy-action film has attracted 8,584,462 moviegoers and is on its way to reaching the milestone of 10 million viewers.

Two newly-released Korean homegrown flicks are catching up with the American movie’s buoyance. All three of them were released Wednesday. Korean rom-com “Like for Likes” stood at third place, drawing 71,240 moviegoers, while the historic flick commemorating poet-turned-protester Yoon Dong-ju during Japanese colonial era, “Dong-ju,” attracted 26,736 moviegoers Thursday.
