K-pop girl group Sistar is sweeping local charts immediately upon releasing its new song “Shake It” from the EP of the same title.

As of Monday, the track has ranked No. 1 on major charts including Melon, Olleh, Naver and Genie.

“We are really grateful that many people are listening to our song,” said the four-member group during an interview with local media on Sunday.

Sistar, which made its debut in 2010, rose to stardom with past hit songs such as “Loving You,” “Give It to Me” and “Touch My Body,” all released in the summer, giving the group its legacy as the “summer girl group.”

“It took us five years to become the summer girl group,” said member Dasom. “In order to attain this title, we actively promoted during the summer for five years, displaying energetic and cool images.”

When asked whether the group is planning to release new songs during the other seasons, Dasom said they will first focus on summer and then on fall and winter later.

“I think our biggest strength is that we are lively and animated,” said fellow member Bora. “Both on the stage and off the camera.”

The retro dance song “Shake It” is a track that exudes Sistar’s energetic charm with catchy lyrics and elated tunes.
