Brother-sister duo Akdong Musician scored four nominations at this year‘s Korea Music Awards, its award committee announced Tuesday.

Akdong Musician were short-listed for the rookie award, best pop song, best pop album and musician of the year as selected by netizens at the 12th Korea Music Awards.

The teenage duo stole the K-pop limelight last year with its first studio album “Play.”

The pair has basked in popularity and won high acclaim for Lee Chan-hyuk’s outstanding composing skills and his younger sister Lee Soo-hyun’s unique vocals despite their young ages.

They made their name known even before their debut with an appearance on the TV audition program “K-pop Star 2” in 2012.

Meanwhile, K-pop legend Seo Taiji grabbed three nominations for this year's musician, best electronic-dance song and netizen-selected artist.

Unlike typical year-end music awards in Korea, the Korea Music Awards select nominees based on the quality of music and contribution to the development of the K-pop industry.

As such, the nominations may exclude many of the mainstream idol groups.

A handful of idols nominated for the awards include boy band INFINITE, Jay Pak and Big Bang member Taeyang, who made his solo return last year.

The winners in 26 categories will be announced at the award ceremony to be held at Mapo Art Center in Seoul on Feb. 26.
