Kang Daniel, formerly of project boy band Wanna One and a winner of Mnet’s reality show “Produce 101,” is making his much-anticipated solo debut next week.

Anticipation is high for the release of his upcoming EP “Color on Me” on July 25, with teaser images unveiled in the past week.

His new, self-established agency Konnect Entertainment said Kang has finished recording as well as shooting a music video and an EP cover. He has also teamed up with choreographer Antonie, who has worked with the likes of Prince and Chris Brown.

Preorders began Tuesday, and the EP has already topped multiple local sales charts.

However, not everything has been rosy for the solo debut, Kang said in an interview with SBS aired Tuesday.

“I tried to brace myself very much. At times, I wasn’t feeling so certain, so I decided to focus on the making of the EP,” he said.

It was his first time talking to the media amid an ongoing legal battle with his previous agency, LM Entertainment. In March, Kang filed a suit to suspend his contract with the firm, citing contract violations. A Seoul court recently ruled in his favor, but LM has hinted at an appeal.

Despite his delayed solo debut, his ardent fans have shown unwavering support. On Twitter, they are promoting the hashtags #StandByDaniel and #WeTrustDaniel, while banners featuring the singer at subway stations in Seoul have been covered with sticky notes in anticipation of his pending release.

Fans also cheered him on when he visited his hometown Busan last week to throw the ceremonial pitch ahead of the match between Busan-based Lotte Giants and NC Dinos at the Sajik Baseball Stadium. He was recently appointed as an honorary ambassador for the city.

In the meantime, Konnect said a showcase event for the new EP is expected to be held next week but the exact date has not been decided.
