In this week’s episode, Jimin and Hoseok, widely known as J-Hope in real life, appeared for the first time in the series.

We are halfway through already, and the plot continues to thicken as we’ve learned that most of the boys -- except perhaps Seokjin -- are dealing with something, be it a medical condition or psychological trauma.

And Hoseok, who is staying in the same hospital ward as Jimin, is suffering from a sleep disorder, supposedly narcolepsy, while we don’t know for sure why Jimin is hospitalized.

While the series has so far focused on the other characters, the eighth episode may have signaled a change of direction as two bandmates who had kept relatively low profiles until now were front and center.

In line with the series’ general dark tone, we got a glimpse of the two singers’ past friendship in a flashback to their school days, when Hoseok appeared in a school uniform at his friend’s hospital bedside.

Memorable moments

Dramatic yet smooth transitions are what “Save Me” does best, and this episode delivered them again. When Jimin put his head in a water-filled sink, suddenly his whole body was under water and we saw him dive deep into an abyss -- an indication of his state of mind.

Fan reaction

Fans were quick to catch what appeared to be a scar on Taehyung’s neck. One Korean fan on Line Webtoon wasn’t sure whether it was a scar or just paint. Others let their imaginations run wild and speculated about whether Jimin had been abused when he was young in the series.

On a lighter note, some fans found it a little difficult to tell the characters apart.

“I feel like I’ve just restanned BTS and am trying to learn their faces again,” one of the top comments read.

Another user wrote, “It honestly took me a couple minutes for me to realize that that was Seokjin in the last frame.”

What to expect next week

As the staff at the hospital hinted, we may find out why Jimin is in hospital. Seokjin was resting in a stairway in the last scene as three members of the hospital staff walked downstairs. Who knows? He might overhear their conversation.
