Choi Si-won of Super Junior was recently invited to a conference at Stanford University in California to share his insight into Hallyu, or the Korean Wave, and his K-pop career.

Representing the act, Label SJ said Saturday that the Super Junior member attended a conference titled “Future Visions: Challenges and Possibilities of Korean Studies in North America” that was held to discuss the future and potential of Korean studies on Thursday and Friday at the prestigious US university. Choi attended as a panelist for the event’s “Korean Wave” section on its second day to talk about his K-pop career.

According to the agency, Choi discussed various topics related to K-pop, including how to become a K-pop star and the social responsibility of entertainment, as well as sharing the history of how Super Junior, which has been around for over 13 years, has yielded great success around the world, especially in Central and South America.

He also posted a photo from the event on his Instagram account and wrote in English, “Today was an enriching, inspiring and informative session about K-Pop, Culture Technology & Korean Studies. ... I hope this event will not only bring more awareness, but also develop into a meaningful study about K-Pop and Korean culture as a whole.”

The conference was organized by the Korea Program of Stanford’s Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center.

A documentary about the workshop, titled “Golden Time of Korea and Korean Studies,” will air in March next year on SBS CNBC.
