'YouTube queens’ Black Pink awarded in Tokyo

Black Pink, holders of a number of YouTube records, won Best Dance Video at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards Japan.

The group, which won the award with the video for single “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” kicked off awards show “MTV VMAJ 2018 -The Live-” held at Studio Coast in Tokyo on Wednesday with a performance.

The audience went wild for the group as Black Pink delivered an energizing effort with the group’s strong stage presence.

Jennie said she was honored to receive the award and added the group wants to return the love from fans with great music.

The “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” video was watched over 400 million times on YouTube and liked over 6 million times as of Thursday morning, becoming the quickest K-pop video to reach the views milestone last week.

The video became the most watched music video by a girl group in the world in the first 24 hours after release in June.

“Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” is also the second-most watched K-pop video in the first 24 hours, trailing only BTS’ “Idol.”
