K-pop girl band GFriend is set to drop a new record on Thursday, a collection of exuberant summer dance songs.

The new extended play "Sunny Summer," which will be made available for streaming at major online music stories at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, is the sextet's first collaboration with the award-winning popular music producer and songwriting duo, Double Sidekick.

Its title track, also "Sunny Summer," is a dance pop tune that tells the story of a summer night, coupled with a easy dance move of fanning motion.

"From its album title to the compilation of its tracks, (Sunny Summer) aims at the summer season. We hope 'Sunny Summer' will take off as a song that comes up every summer," GFriend said in a press meeting on Wednesday, ahead of the album release.

"The choreography of the latest song looked less demanding than those for our previous songs, but we found it to be as physically demanding as before after going through the whole song because it involves a lot of hopping and jumping," the members said with laugh.

The other tracks include "Vacation," a tropical house tune, "Windy Windy" and "Sweety."

"Each track is full of summer moods. I hope this album comes as a reinvigorating source of energy to many people," GFriend said. "I hope you stay cool in this summer, listening to our songs."

The members also recalled their first album, released in May in Japan, where the group was touted as a rising K-pop star.

"We have a lot to show to Japanese fans," member Yuju said. "It felt we started anew. We were nervous and afraid, but we had a bit of calmness since we have been experienced in Korea," according to member Umji.

Since their debut in 2015, GFriend had seven songs charted high in major local music charts, with the group aiming for another hit with the latest track.

"Fans' expectations of us come to us as a positive stimulant. One of our goals is to become a girl band you would continue to put expectations on," Umji noted.

Following the album release, GFriend will throw two days of concerts at Olympic Park in southeastern Seoul from Sept. 8-9.

"It will offer a lot for our fans to enjoy. We want revive the excitement we had in our first concert," member SinB said. (Yonhap)
