Blazing like the sun, Mamamoo returned with the Latin-inspired single “Egoistic,” its first take on the reggaeton genre.

“Previously, our summer releases centered on fresh and cool tunes. But this time, we tried to set ourselves apart from other groups by being more passionate, like fighting fire with fire,” said Solar during a press showcase for its second EP “Red Moon” in Seoul on Monday.

Overflowing with effusive Latin guitar strings and whirring synths, lead track “Egoistic” brings out a more soulful and powerful side of the four-piece girl group, with the members dancing in dresses of vivid colors, like gypsies, while surrounded by fire in the song’s eye-catching music video.

Lyrically, the song throws an admonishing message to a selfish love interest, powered by effusive and soaring vocals.

“Since the color of our new album is red, it has a lot of anger. It’s a song that scolds one’s boyfriend,” Moonbyul said.

“Red Moon” is a part of the team’s project to commemorate four seasons of the year by depicting them with a color. “Red Moon” is inspired by red, Moonbyul’s color, while the group’s previous “Yellow Flower” EP released in March centered on yellow, the color of Solar.

“We are having the busiest days since our debut. After promoting the album, we have lot to prepare, starting with a concert,” Hwasa said.

“It’s tough sometimes, but I think we are on the right track to improve ourselves.”

The six-track album also includes “Summer Night’s Dream,” “Rainy Season,” “Lightly,” “Might As Well Sleep” and “Selfish.”

Since its debut in 2014, the powerhouse vocal group has propelled to prominence in the K-pop scene due to its wide musical range and vocal prowess.
