The soul of an ultra-ambitious man with a cold, unfeeling heart enters the body of an honest, hardworking family man through a divine error. Sound familiar?

Although the basic outline of KBS 2TV's new series, "The Miracle We Met," is not completely new in Korean drama, the powerful combination of cast members, writer and producer raises expectations for a fresh angle and a convincing, warm and relatable story.

At a media event Thursday, scriptwriter Paik Mi-kyung agreed that it wasn't entirely original, but emphasized that her new work wouldn't recycle the idea in a tedious way.

"Honestly, I've seen more than 10 dramas with this subject. I know it is all too familiar and boring. But as you might all be aware, I am not the kind of writer who repeats the same old story."

Indeed, the outspoken writer has written many interesting dramas, such as "Strong Girl Bong-soon" and more recently "The Lady in Dignity," which garnered high viewership ratings as well as a critical acclaim.

For this series, she teamed up with the producer of "Strong Girl Bong-soon," who made such hit series as "Sang Doo! Let's Go to School" and "I'm Sorry, I Love You."

The writer said it's been quite a while since she first came up with the story idea. "In the beginning, I had a story about a man who challenged God in mind, but the story has evolved by itself as the lead character is such a golden-hearted man," she said.

Actor Kim Myung-min, who plays lead character Song Hyun-chul, said it was very challenging to play an extremely confused man who has to live in the body of a complete stranger with the same name, age and birthday but a completely different life.

"I am completely engrossed in the character. I constantly think about how I am going to perform this difficult character who is suffering an identity crisis," he said.

He said he decided to take on the role because he had complete faith in the writer-producer combination, adding that the show would be like a "gift set" that contains a selection of different genres -- melodrama, mystery, fantasy and romance.

The miraculous story of a man who changes his surroundings for the better after his life has been upended overnight will lead TV viewers to ask themselves what a true miracle is, the actor said.

The message, he added, is that everyone can achieve a miracle by spending quality time with their loved ones and living their lives to the fullest.

Kim Hyun-joo and Ra Mi-ran will play the wives of the cold guy and the warm guy, respectively, while boy band EXO's Kai will play Ato the Messenger, who makes a fateful mistake that turns Song Hyun-chul's life upside down.

"I am writing the script while thinking there should be a drama like this, regardless of viewership ratings. I hope this drama becomes a classic," the writer said.

The series will premiere at 10 p.m. on Monday. (Yonhap)
