Marvel's latest superhero movie "Black Panther" stayed atop the South Korean box office in its second weekend, data showed Monday.

The film added 709,167 tickets sold from Friday to Sunday for a cumulative 4.496 million, according to the computerized tally from the Korean Film Council.

"What Happened to Monday" debuted in No. 2, drawing 238,654 moviegoers. The dystopian action thriller features Swedish actress Noomi Rapace playing seven identical sisters, each with different personality traits and attributes. It has gained some momentum thanks to strong reviews.

Domestic crime thriller "Golden Slumber," led by Gang Dong-won, remained in third place, selling 158,217 tickets.

It revolves around a kind and true-hearted delivery man who suddenly becomes wanted by the police as the prime suspect in the assassination of an influential presidential candidate. Released on Feb. 14, the film has attracted an audience of 1.32 million.

It was closely followed by the Korean adventure-comedy "Detective K: Secret of the Living Dead" with 146,827 views.

The third installment of the detective series set in the 1392-1910 Joseon era is a period comedy about a well-known detective duo combining forces with a powerful woman to solve a mysterious serial murder case. The series debuted in 2011.

Coming in fifth was new Hollywood release "The Shape of Water," which sold 132,614 tickets. (Yonhap)
