Actress Lee Young-ae has donated 100 million won (US$92,712) to a local hospital foundation, it said Friday.

She made the donation to the Yonsei University Health System on Dec. 6, asking that the money be used to fund various research conducted by its Severance Hospitals, treat child cancer patients and help people in need.

The Yonsei University Health System runs three Severance Hospitals in Seoul and its adjacent city of Yongin.

Including the money, Lee is known to have donated nearly 500 million won last year alone for low-income and multicultural families, and low-income pregnant women.

"I came to join the donation campaign out of the thought it is very important to develop a society's medical level as its fruit can be shared by not just one patient but many others," Lee was quoted as saying during a recent ceremony to deliver the donation.

The Asianwide star of the famed South Korean TV series "Daejanggeum" last appeared in "Saimdang, Memoir of Colors," a 28-episode series aired on SBS TV early last year. (Yonhap)
