'1987' movie surpasses 7 million attendance mark

"1987: When the Day Comes," a South Korean film about historic nationwide protests against the military-backed government in June 1987, has topped 7 million in attendance, data showed Sunday.

The historical epic passed the threshold at 2:35 p.m., on the 33rd day of its theatrical run, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).

It stayed in fifth at the box office on Saturday, more than a month after its release in local theaters.

Directed by Jang Joon-hwan, it stars Kim Yoon-seok, Ha Jung-woo, Yoo Hae-jin, Kim Tae-ri, Park Hee-soon and Lee Hee-jun. (Yonhap)
