Singer-actor Lee Seung-gi opened up about his thoughts on his first work since being discharged from the military during a press conference for tvN’s upcoming fantasy adventure drama “A Korean Odyssey,” broadcast live via Naver’s V app Friday.

“I wanted to work with the director sometime and I was glad that I could join this collaboration of the director and the writers,” he said. “I will try my best to repay your support and not to disappoint fans.”

“I also was worried if I could do well and I guess other actors and the production team would have worried if I lost my touch (in acting),” he said. “As I’m working with the actors with good harmony, it’s rather enjoyable than tiring and as we are making the scenes which are even more lively than we’ve imagined from the script, I’m very enjoying filming the drama.”

When asked about his first day filming, he said, “I walked in an imposing manner pretending as if I’m not nervous, but I realized that I was very nervous.”

When asked about his upcoming new variety show set to air on SBS, he said, “When I’m returning I didn’t really decide ‘I must do drama’ or ‘I must do a variety show,’” he said. “The schedule is quite tight, but I challenged myself with the mindset of military soldier, ‘Make the impossible possible.’”

“I think it was OK as I’m still alive,” he joked.

In the drama based on the 16th-century Chinese novel “Journey to the West,” Lee will play the lead role of Son Oh-gong. The series will center on how Son, a self-indulgent yet charismatic demon, and Woo Ma-wang, an elegant and gentle demon played by actor Cha Seung-won, venture together into the turbulent human world and fight their nemesis to bring peace to mankind.

“A Korean Odyssey” will also star actresses Oh Yeon-seo and Kim Ji-soo as well as Lee Hong-ki of FT Island and rapper One. The drama will premiere on Dec. 23 at 9 p.m.
