Indie pop duo Bolbbalgan4 on Thursday released a new EP packed with songs about love and growing pains.

The lead song of the album "Red Diary Page.1" is "Some," a neologism widely used by Korea youth, referring to a complicated state of a relationship between friendship and romance.

"I have no dating experience. We wrote this song because we both want to be in a 'some' relationship," said member Woo Ji-yoon during a media showcase at KT&G Sangsang Madang in southern Seoul.

The digital version holds five new songs, while the physical CD includes a bonus track, a rearranged version of "Some." "To My Puberty," the album's second title track, is a semi-retrospective number about the band's own growing pains.

"I recalled crying alone since my parents were strongly against my musical aspirations during high school. I even cried a lot when recording," main singer Ahn Ji-young said.

The 22-year-old former high school classmates became an instant sensation after releasing their first full-length album "Red Planet" in 2016. The band's breakout hit "Galaxy" won the song of the year award at the 14th Korean Music Awards in February.

Ahn admitted that the pressure was high for the team to prove themselves again.

"We were burdened a lot as 'Galaxy' was beloved by so many. We thought of maybe making the album by referencing that song, but ended up just putting in what we wanted to express," told Ahn.

Woo added, "It'd be great if we're loved dearly again this time, but we don't assume that to be a given. Even if expectations aren't met, we'll work harder to make up for it." (Yonhap)
