Park Jin-young expected the success of Sunmi’s latest track “Gashina,” he revealed Sunday on the latest episode of the SBS show “Party People.”

Sunmi recently released the single “Gashina,” marking her first solo work since Wonder Girls disbanded in January.

“It went well after all. I complimented her as soon as the track was released. I said, ‘Look, Sunmi, you are going to be ranked No. 1,’” Park said.

Sunmi, who was a guest in Sunday’s episode, said, “Park Jin-young called me after the showcase. He complimented me in an excited tone. You know, JYP was my home originally.”

The singer debuted as a member of Wonder Girls in 2007 with the group’s first single “The Wonder Begins.” The group had been popular with tracks such as “Tell Me,” “So Hot” and “Nobody.” The 25-year-old singer had also pursued a solo career outside of the group, enjoying moderate success at the time with songs such as “24 Hours” and “Full Moon.”
