South Korean actor Park Hae-jin donated 10 million won, or US$8,842, to be used for poor Chinese children, his management agency said Monday.

Mountain Movement said the actor made the donation to a Chinese campaign, run by the Free Lunch Fund of China Social Welfare Foundation and Chinese portal site QQ, to "help Chinese children avoid starvation and improve their nutritive conditions."

Park contributed to the charity upon hearing his Chinese fan club donated money for the cause.

The actor has been active in philanthropic missions in China including supporting sick children and planting trees and building wells to help prevent desertification. According to his agency, the donation amounts to some 700 million won.

Recently he was chosen as an exemplary volunteer by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in recognition of his continuous efforts on the social welfare front.

He is currently preparing for his next romantic thriller drama with the tentative title "Dead Man." (Yonhap)
