Singer and actor Lee Seung-gi has been offered the lead role for an upcoming tvN drama, the broadcaster said Monday.

Written by sister team Hong Jeong-eun and Mi-ran, who were behind TV dramas “You’re Beautiful” and “The Greatest Love,” the show will be a fantasy rom-com based on classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West.”

Lee was offered the role of Sun Wukong, who is expelled to the human world with his magical powers bound. He falls in love with Xuanzang, who can unbind his power, while squabbling with her. Park Bo-gum had previously been offered the role, but declined.

Lee, who is still serving his mandatory military service, has yet to confirm the role, saying it is more important for him to focus on his current duties.

Lee enlisted with the Special Forces in February 2016. He will be discharged on Oct. 31.
