Sung Hoon (Bang Sung-hoon) revealed the reason why he had quit swimming in a recent interview with the Korean edition of bnt International.

The actor was a member of the national swim team and specialized in the butterfly stroke. He swam for 14 years but retired because of a spinal injury which resulted in more than 10 surgeries.

During the interview which took place at an outdoor swimming pool, however, the actor gave another reason for quitting.

“Crucially, Park Tae-hwan appeared and I decided to quit,” he said referring to the Olympic gold medalist and world champion.

The former swimming athlete shifted to acting in 2011 with the SBS drama “New Tales of Gisaeng.” He is currently starring on “The Idolmaster KR,” a drama series based on a popular Japanese video game “The Idolmaster.”
