Jang Dong-gun: It’s not easy being handsome
Actor Jang Dong-gun is returning to the big screen in the upcoming film “VIP,” set to hit theaters on Aug. 24.
Once known as the “handsomest man” in Korea, Jang joked that maintaining his looks was a difficult feat.
“It’s not easy being handsome. You can’t achieve it with effort,” he joked at a press conference for the film Monday at Seoul’s CGV Apgujeong.

The film is the newest piece helmed by director Park Hoon-jung, who previously directed “New World.”
“VIP” is about an important political figure from North Korea who is a suspected serial killer. In the film, Central Intelligence Agency and Korea’s National Intelligence Service cooperate to try and capture him.

Jang plays NIS agent Park Jae-hyuk.
“I wanted to escape the conventional spy image,” Jang said on how he approached the character. “It’s a role that you see frequently in Korean films. But I wanted it to appear more realistic.”
