Red Velvet sweeps album charts with ‘Red Flavor’

Red Velvet’s new summery track “Red Flavor” has been seeing huge success across Asia since its release on Sunday.

“Red Flavor,” the lead track from the girl group’s latest EP “The Red Summer,” debuted at No. 1 on iTunes album chart in eight countries including Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Belize.

The song also went on to top iTunes K-pop chart in eight additional countries including the United States, New Zealand, Mexico, Australia, Chile and Argentina.

Boasting a cheery melody and playful lyrics, “Red Flavor” is a trendy electro-pop synth about a fruity flavor of summer romance. The track’s music video also features five girls dancing in a fruity and vibrant backdrop that recalls summery image.

Red Velvet’s latest EP “Red Summer” is the act’s first album since its fourth EP “Rookie” in February, which landed the group atop the Billboard‘s World Album chart for the second time.

Aside from “Red Flavor,” the EP features five songs, including EDM number “You Better Know,” tropical dance song “Zoo,” a saccharine urban pop “Mojito” and R&B-tinged “Hear the Sea.”

The band debuted its new song during SM Town Live World Tour VI concert at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Saturday and then revealed the track’s music video on Sunday.



“Red Flavor” also ranked No. 1 on major local music sites including Genie and Soribada as of Monday 1 p.m.
