Production for Park Chan-wook’s “The Ax” has foundered, the director said Sunday on a radio show.

“I had been preparing the English-language movie ‘The Ax’ as my next project, but investment fell through at the last minute,” director Park said on MBC Radio’s “Blue Night,” hosted by movie critic Lee Dong-jin.

“Though there’s nothing decided for certain, I have many movies in the works,” said Park. “There are for-TV movies and for-theater movies. Depending on which of them receives investment first, I will begin directing.”

“The Ax” was planned as an adaptation of a novel of the same title by Donald Westlake. Greek director Costa-Gavras previously remade the novel into a film in 1995.
