OCN’s crime series “Tunnel” was recently exported to Japan.

“Universal Japan bought the publication right of ‘Tunnel,’” said a local media report Thursday. “The company paid $40,000 (45.1 million won) to $50,000 per episode for the drama.”

Most Korean dramas are romantic comedies these days, so it is unusual for a drama that deals with serial murder to be exported.
The report said that the Japanese drama industry has shown high interest in well-made Korean dramas.

It added that Choi Jin-hyuk, who plays the male lead role in “Tunnel,” contributed to promoting the series.

Choi has starred in several dramas, such as SBS’ “The Heirs,” MBC’s “Gu Family Book” and “Fated to Love You,” which were exported to various Asian countries, including Japan, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong.

“Tunnel” had a viewership rating of 5.4 percent on April 30. Four episodes remain in the 16-episode drama, which began airing in March.
