Actor Joo Won on Thursday denied media reports that he would be enlisting for mandatory military service on May 16.

“The official date has not been decided yet and Joo Won hasn’t even received his draft notice. We just assume he will join the military in May for now,” his agency Huayi Brothers Entertainment said. “We’ll make an official announcement once he receives the notice.”

The actor had previously applied to join the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s public relations unit but declined the assignment in March last year, choosing instead to serve active duty military service.

Following his debut in 2007, Joo Won played several lead roles in dramas and films, including the KBS2 drama “Good Doctor” in 2013, comedy film “Fashion King” in 2014 and SBS drama “Yong-pal” in 2015.

In March, Joo Won finished filming the SBS drama “My Sassy Girl,” which is based on the 2001 megahit film of the same title. The drama is slated to air Mondays and Tuesdays, from May.
