US fashion magazine W dubbed South Korean actress Lee Sung-kyung “South Korea’s answer to Gigi Hadid” in an article released Monday.
The monthly magazine with more than 40 years of history has covered K-pop idols such as Red Velvet, Sooyoung of Girls’ Generation and CL of disbanded 2NE1. However, it has been a rarity for it to write about a Korean actor.

The magazine compared Lee to American fashion model Gigi Hadid for having more than 5.5 million followers on her Instagram. It said that number represented more than 10 percent of the nation’s population, which “would make her proportionally right on par with Gigi Hadid’s following in America.”
The model-turned-actress recently starred in MBC’s TV drama “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo,” which finished its 16-episode run in January.
