Second season of ‘Produce 101’ set to film
(Mnet) |
The program experienced difficulties in casting as agencies hesitated on allowing their trainees to join the program.
Three entertainment giants -- S.M. Entertainment, JYP Entertainment and YG Entertainment -- announced in January that their trainees would not participate in the program. Other agencies also hesitated on confirming their participation, putting the program in jeopardy.
On Monday, a local media outlet reported that Jellyfish Entertainment, Pledis Entertainment, Cube Entertainment and Fantagio Music, the agencies of some of the final 11 winners, would join the program.
A representative from Mnet said, “The details about the 101 participants will be gradually disclosed.”
The audition program brings together 101 trainees from local labels to compete for a spot in a new 11-member group. The 11 winners from the first season made their debut as a girl group dubbed I.O.I, which recently disbanded.
The new season will start filming Sunday and hit TV screens within the first half of the year.
