‘Confidential Assignment’ gains foothold in N. American box office

The Korean spy action film “Confidential Assignment” is gaining popularity in the North America.

“‘Confidential Assignment’ is attracting more viewers as it’s getting famous by word of mouth,” the film’s distributor CJ Entertainment America said Monday.

The film recorded box office sales of $236,322 as of Friday, ranking No. 29 among the top 2017 movies at the US box office.

The film will open in Hawaii on Friday. It has been sold to 42 countries across the world and is currently playing in North American cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Buena Park and New Jersey.

Starring Hyun Bin and Yoo hae-jin, the film centers on a fictional inter-Korean secret police mission to capture a North Korean criminal group.

Since its release on Jan. 18, the film has sold 7.39 million tickets in Korea.
