Girl group Twice and boy group Bangtan Boys (BTS) have respectively topped the music and album charts for 2016, said an industry association said on Wednesday.

The Korea Music Content Industry Association (KMCIA), which operates the Gaon charts, said Twice's single "Cheer Up" and BTS'
latest LP "Wings" hit the top spot on Gaon's 2016 Digital Chart and Album Chart based on sales accumulated from January to November.

GFriend's "Rough" and M.C. The Max's "No Matter Where" came in second and third on the Gaon Digital Chart, which comprehensively reflects the number of plays and downloads. "This Love" by Davichi and "You are my Everything" by Gummy, both tracks off the OST of hit drama "Descendants of the Sun" came in fourth and fifth.

As for the album chart, the Korean version of EXO's third LP "EX'ACT" was No. 2, followed by BTS' previous album "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Young Forever" and "Hey Mama!" by EXO's sub-unit group CBX. Fifth place was the Chinese version of "EX'ACT."

"The sales amount of the Chinese and Korean versions of "EX'ACT" adds up to more than 800,000, but since the index only counts individual albums, BTS' 'Wings,' which sold over 710,000, won first place," the KMCIA said.

The KMCIA will announce the final tally that reflects the December sales in the second week of January, next year. (Yonhap)
