I.O.I is the third celebrity group to contribute to the drama’s soundtrack. To have music featured in TV drama is considered a lucrative and coveted opportunity in Korea, with such deals often only extended to the most famous stars.

K-pop group EXO’s members Baekhyun, Chen and Xiumin sang the first background track for the drama, “For you,” followed by rapper and balladeer Loco and Punch’s collaborative song “Say Yes.”

Music producer Song Dong-woon, who worked for hit TV series such as “Descendants of the Sun” (2016) and “Pinocchio” (2014), has once again taken the wheels for this SBS show.

“Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo” is a 20-episode show based on the original Chinese novel “Bu Bu Jing Xin” by author Tong Hua.

The show aired its first and second episodes Monday and is slated to air its third episode on Tuesday at 10 p.m. on channel SBS.
