Disgruntled fans want Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany to leave the entertainment business, following a controversial incident on social media earlier this week.

The Hallyu star had posted a photo on Instagram along with an emoticon of a Japanese flag that had stood for Japanese imperialism during World War II. This happened on Korea’s Liberation Day on Aug. 15, which marks the anniversary of the country’s independence from Japanese colonial rule.

Outraged fans are now calling for the production staff of KBS 2TV’s reality show “Unnies’ Slam Dunk” to remove Tiffany from the program.

A slew of online users’ comments calling for the singer to quit “Unnies’ Slam Dunk” are swamping the online bulletin board of the show.

On Daum Agora, a search engine-based forum for online campaigns, as of Wednesday, six campaigns are urging Tiffany’s removal from not only her position as a co-host of “Unnies’ Slam Dunk,” but also from the entertainment business.

To many Koreans, the Rising Sun Flag signifies suppression during Japanese colonial rule. What made matters worse was that Tiffany’s social media blunder happened on Liberation Day.

Many Korean online users claim that Tiffany’s post is “a thoughtless act justifying Japanese colonial rule.”

The producers of “Unnies’ Slam Dunk” are reportedly considering the issue "seriously."
