“The Last Princess” is based on the actual life of Princess Deokhye, the last princess of Korea’s Joseon era. The princess was forced by the Japanese government to move to the mainland at the age of 13 in 1925, as Korea was annexed by Japan at the time. The movie portrays Deokhye’s life in Japan, as she spends many years pining for her homeland.

Son was quoted as saying in a press briefing Monday, “I felt bigger responsibility for this role because this was my first time playing the role of a real person. I tried to reflect both what I saw in documentaries about Deokhye and what I imagine she would have done in certain situations.”

“The Last Princess” has cast other high-profile Korean actors and actresses as well, including Park Hae-il, Ra Mi-ran and Jung Sang-hoon.

Son has starred in several hit TV dramas and movies, including “The Classic” (2003), “Personal Taste” (2010) and “The Tower” (2012).
