Top stars make cameo appearance in TV dramas

Top Korean stars including Yoo Ah-in, Lee Kwang-soo, Zo In-sung and Park Shin-hye, are playing cameo roles in TV dramas, stealing the show despite their brief appearances.

In the hit TV drama “Descendants of the Sun,” which ended on April 14, three actors made cameo appearances, thanks to their friendship with the cast and staff members.

Actor Lee Kwang-soo, who is a close friend to the drama’s lead, Song Joong-ki, appeared in the first episode and drew viewers’ laughter with his funny performance as the owner of an arcade. Actor Lee Jong-hyuk, who worked with the drama’s writer Kim Eun-sook in “A Gentleman’s Dignity,” played Song’s fellow soldier who died in combat. Yoo Ah-in, who is signed to the same agency as actress Song Hye-kyo, played a meticulous bank teller who refused to approve loans to Song’s character.

On Wednesday evening, Park Shin-hye made a 20-second cameo appearance in the SBS TV drama “Entertainer.”

According to the broadcaster, Park’s cameo in the drama was unplanned. Recently, she visited the drama set with snacks to cheer on its cast members, director Hong Sung-chang, who was behind the TV drama “You’re Beautiful” (2009), and scriptwriter Yoo Young-ah, who worked on the film “Miracle in Cell No. 7” (2013). At the site, Hong asked Park to film a short scene on the spot and Park agreed to participate to show her support to the director.

The new tvN drama “Dear My Friends” is also making headlines for its all-star cameo appearances.

Actors Zo, Lee Kwang-soo, Sung Dong-il, Jang Hyun-sung and Daniel Henney took cameo roles in the drama about romance between senior citizens. They add to the drama’s already star-studded cast made up of actress Ko Hyun-jung and veteran stars Youn Yuh-jung, Na Moon-hee, Kim Hye-ja, Go Doo-shim, Park Won-sook, Joo Hyun and Shin Gu.

“Dear My Friends” will premiere on May 13.
