Singer Kim Jun-su of K-pop group JYJ and musical actor Park Eun-tae will star in a new musical “Dorian Gray,” production company C-JeS Culture said Monday.

The musical is based on Oscar Wilde’s novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” which centers on a wealthy, attractive Englishman, who trades his soul to maintain a youthful appearance.

Kim will play the lead role Dorian Gray, while Park takes on the role of Lord Henry Wotton, a middle-aged aristocrat, who is a friend of Gray and the painter Basil Hallward, who paints the infamous portrait.

“Dorian, who represents what beauty is in the work, has been always at the center of attention for his multifariousness, pursuing pleasure and following instinct, while continuing to seek passion and truth in life,” said Lee Ji-na, director of the musical. “I couldn’t think of any suitable actor other than Kim.”

“When I heard about the story, I was immediately fascinated by Dorian’s character,” said Kim. It was a role that I have always wanted to try so I am very happy yet nervous.”
