Director Bong Joon-ho to start filming ‘Okja’ in April

Korean director Bong Joon-ho who drew much attention from cinema fans around the world with “Memories Of Murder,” (2003) and “The Host” (2006) is set to start the shooting of his new film “Okja” from April 23.

According to the official website of Korean Film Council Namyangju Studios, Hollywood stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Tilda Swinton are listed on its April schedule.

The shooting is expected to last for about eight to 10 weeks, and will take place in the U.S. after that.

Its cast members also include other foreign top celebrities such as actress Kelly Macdonald and actors Paul Dano and Bill Nighy, along with Korean actor Choi Woo-sik and child actress Ahn Seo-hyun.

Moreover, renowned Iranian-French cinematographer Darius Khondji -- who previously worked in various hits “Alien: Resurrection” (1997), “Midnight In Paris” (2011) and “To Rome with Love” (2012) -- has also joined this movie.

Netflix and actor Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment have also invested in the project, according to local media outlets.

What is unusual is that “Okja” will be mostly distributed via Netflix, and open in theaters on a small scale. It aims to release in 2017.
