Actress Song Hye-kyo, the female lead of popular TV drama “Descendants of the Sun,” thanked her costar Song Joong-ki for the strong love chemistry they share in the drama.

“Since the drama ‘Full House,’ it has been awhile since I played such a bright character,” she told reporters at a press conference for the drama on Wednesday in Seoul.

She added, “At first, I couldn’t grasp the (character) well enough, but thanks to my costars, I was able to get into the scene easily.”

Song, 34, also mentioned how she is grateful to be able to work with Song Joong-ki, 30, who is younger than her.

“I am very honored to act with a wonderful actor who is younger,” she said. “Many actresses who are my age act with actors who are younger than them by more than five years. When taking that into account, our age difference is not a lot.”

“At the site, I was regarded as the elderly, but when it comes to our body age, I think he was older. He was frequently sick. Maybe next time, I would like to act with an actor who is even younger,” she said.

“Descendants of the Sun” is a KBS2 drama that centers on Yoo Si-jin, the leader of a special warfare command unit played by Song Joong-ki, and Kang Mo-yeon, the leader of an overseas medical voluntary team played by Song Hye-kyo. It is set in the fictional war-torn country Uruk.

The drama is enjoying immense popularity here, raking in over 28.5 percent in nationwide viewership in just six episodes. It is also doing well in China.

It airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 10 p.m.
