Upcoming KBS drama series “Descendants of the Sun” released new promotional images of stars in their lead roles Wednesday.

Actor Song Joong-ki and actress Song Hye-kyo play the lead characters, named Yoo Si-jin and Kang Mo-yeon respectively.

Yoo is a captain in a U.N. peacekeeping unit and Kang is a doctor. The two work in a fictional region named Uruk.

Actor Jin Goo and actress Kim Ji-won also play main characters, a soldier and an army doctor.

It’s Song Joong-gi’s first appearance since he returned from his mandatory military service, and Song Hye-kyo is also returning after a long break. It has been three years since her last project, “That Winter, The Wind Blows.”

Kim Eun-sook, who has penned several hit dramas including “Lovers in Paris,” “Secret Garden” and “The Heirs,” wrote the script for “Descendants of the Sun.”

Korean and Chinese production teams collaborated to produce this drama, investing over $1 million.

The 16-episode drama will air every Wednesday and Thursday on KBS 2TV starting Feb. 24.
