“The Sound of a Flower,” also known as Dorihwaga, starring Miss A’s Suzy, started out with lower-than-expected attendance, according to local entertainment media outlets.

The movie tells the story of the struggles of Korea’s first female pansori -- a Korean genre of musical storytelling -- singer during the Joseon era.

Even before hitting the theaters, the film has come under the media spotlight as it stars hotshot singer-actress Suzy and veteran actor Ryu Seung-ryong.

However, despite buzz and anticipation, the movie has seen a disappointing performance so far, merely drawing 245,000 viewers since its Nov. 25 premiere.

Industry watchers said its boring plotline and Suzy’s unpolished pansori are the main culprits behind weak ticket sales. A year of her practicing pansori seems not have been enough to draw cinemagoers.

Although “The Sound of a Flower” had topped the list in ticket reservations prior to the release, beating out other local movies including “Inside Men,” it ended up ranking fourth in the box office after hitting theaters.
