Song will need eight weeks to recover from the damage to a cruciate ligament in his right knee. He is also known to have wrist pain.

“The eight-week recovery includes the period for Song’s treatment. He is not hospitalized yet, but is set to have further diagnosis-and-treatment for about two weeks,” said an official from Song’s agency, Blossom Entertainment.

The accident occurred when Song wanted to shoot his own stunt. “As he was shooting for the drama wearing tight apparel, it was difficult to properly put on protective gear,” the official explained.

The rest of the drama’s cast will continue filming.

“Descendants of the Sun” depicts the importance of life via young soldiers and doctors, who seek love and success amid difficult situations. Song plays the leader of the overseas dispatched troops who are part of the special forces.

The drama is scheduled to premiere next year.
