The nation’s largest search portal Naver began offering Chinese subtitles on its live-streaming app V on Monday as part of its efforts to provide multinational language services.

Live subtitles in English and Chinese have test-run since mid-October, but the frequency of the service lately has been something to note.

In Monday’s broadcast, two shows, including an hourlong talk by group CNBLUE’s Lee Jung-shin, had real-time subtitles in Chinese.

Albeit lagged, it was enough to entice a massive number of Chinese users to the V app.

Naver’s official in charge of the V service said Tuesday that the firm is trying to extend its languages services to as many live broadcasts as possible, centering first on the shows that have featured in the “Upcoming” section of V app, as they are the most highly anticipated.

For the shows that did not have real-time subtitles, V’s foreign language experts will add on the subtitles for the replay versions, the company said.

V also provides Korean subtitles for Vietnamese celebrities who run their own channels on the platform.

Naver’s real-time broadcasting app V allows fans to interact with their favorite K-pop stars through live broadcasts. The app is available for Android and iOS. For more information, visit www.vlive.tv.
