Celebrities’ entering college via special admission has long been a controversial issue in Korea, where many ordinary students prepare for the “life-deciding” test for 12 years from elementary to high school. The stars, who enter top colleges via special admissions and may not even attend classes on the pretext of being busy with their work schedule, often rile negative feelings in other students.
Still, there are some top celebrities who refuse the special treatment and give up or delay college admission. Here is a list of some actors and singers, who decided to focus more on their career.

Singer BoA

BoA, who gained huge popularity in the early 2000s in Japan and Korea, gave up entering college in 2004 to focus on her career. It became a media sensation as the decision was rare among celebrities at the time.
“I don’t think educational background is important to my career. Instead, sensibility and ability seem more vital,” she said, adding, “Even if I go to college, I don’t think I can attend class frequently. That would be meaningless to me,” she added.

Actor Yoo Seung-ho

Yoo Seung-ho started acting as a child, appearing in mega hit movie “The Way Home.” Yoo, who finished his military duty in December last year, said, “I have thought about whether to study in college since high school. If I should go, I may major in theater and film, but I can learn better on the filming site than in the class.”

IU, who debuted at age 15 in 2008 and has continued to see success ever since in the Korean entertainment scene, said, “Even if I take the test, I don’t think there would be any questions I can answer. Even if I go to college via special admission, I don’t think I can manage it well.”

Miss A’s Suzy, who is also successfully building her acting career, said, “I decided to concentrate on my work. If I have time to focus on studying in the future, I want to try it.”

Sulli, who recently left (fx) to focus on her acting career, gave up on going to college in 2012 while she was preparing for TV drama “To the Beautiful You.”
Her agency said, “She decided not to take the exam because she lacked time to prepare for it. When she is fully prepared sometime in the future, she will take up the challenge.”
