The upcoming SBS Monday-Tuesday TV drama “Six Flying Dragons” will feature six characters -- both historical and fictional -- relevant to the founding of the Joseon era kingdom. The show will air its first installment on Oct. 5. The following is a brief introduction to major characters referred to as “dragons.”


The first dragon: Lee Seong-gye (Cheon Ho-jin)

Lee Seong-gye (Cheon Ho-jin) (SBS)

Lee Seong-gye was the founding father and the first king of the Joseon era. He has been historically eulogized as an ambitious and gallant man loyal to friends. An undefeatable warrior and a matchless bowman, Lee Seong-gye shaped the bedrock of Joseon with his army.

The second dragon: Jeong Do-jeon (Kim Myung-min)

Jeong Do-jeon (Kim Myung-min) (SBS)

Jeong Do-jeon was Lee Seong-gye’s key adviser and a charismatic mastermind behind the buildup of Joseon’s political infrastructure. He mentored Lee Seong-gye’s son Lee Bang-won, but later turned against the prince to become his archnemesis. Jeong is known to have offered ingenious directions for Goryeo, the dynasty that preceded the Joseon era.

The third dragon: Lee Bang-won (Yoo Ah-in)

Lee Bang-won was a taciturn but passionate young man, who carried out his actions with precision. He will be portrayed as an evolving character, to be acted by rising star Yoo Ah-in, who will portray the character at a younger age than any previous productions have. In the “Six Flying Dragons,” Lee Bang-won’s childhood, on which historical data is scant, will be illustrated. Lee Bang-won became Joseon’s third king.

The fourth dragon: Ddang-sae (Byun Yo-han)

Fictional character Ddang-sae, or Lee Bang-ji, was Boon-yi’s brother and Jeong Do-jeon’s guard. Born to an impoverished family of farmers, Ddang-sae was pushed to become Joseon’s best swordsman in the midst of Goryeo’s political turmoil.

The fifth dragon: Boon-yi (Shin Se-kyung)

Boon-yi (Shin Se-kyung) (SBS)

The only female in the league of dragons of the TV series, Boon-yi represents the people of the time. She had a golden heart that cannot connive in injustice or overlook a suffering person. Boon-yi becomes Lee Bang-won’s love interest in the fictional plot.

The sixth dragon: Moo-hyul (Yoon Gyun-sang)

Moo-hyul (Yoon Gyun-sang) (SBS)

Moo-hyul, the firstborn of a destitute 10-child household in a remote countryside, later became a seemingly invincible warrior who rose to become the chief of the royal guards. He dreamed of elevating his family name through his swordsmanship.
