The Korean action film “Assassination,” which features assassination attempts by Korea’s independence army under Japanese colonial rule, drew over 800 million viewers as of Friday, according to the movie’s distributor Showbox Mediaplex.

Amid intensified competition with formidable “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation” and “Veteran,” the star-studded movie has made a remarkable achievement, even three weeks after its release.

Set in 1933 in Shanghai and Seoul, the film unfolds a story of Korean independence soldiers with a mission to kill a Japanese official, while being chased themselves.
