South Korean actor Lee Min-ho has been appointed a public ambassador Tuesday to promote the country’s stagnant tourism industry due to recent MERS outbreak, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The actor will be featured in a promotional video, alongside the slogan “Korea, Let Your Story Begin,” introducing major tourist attractions, including Seoul’s Cheonggyecheon Stream, Seochon and Samcheong-dong.

Lee has successfully finished shooting the video with Park Myung-cheon and Wayne Peng, renowned advertisement producers from Korea and China, respectively.

“It was indeed a meaningful opportunity to promote the beauty of our country. I hope this will work as a trigger to revive the current recession in Korea’s tourist industry,” said Lee through his management agency.

His promotional video will air from early August on the world’s major broadcasting channels including CNN, China’s CCTV and Korea’s Arirang TV, along with YouTube.

The 28-year-old actor has become an international hallyu star following his appearance on TV hit “The Heirs” and “Boys over Flowers.”
