A folktale-based fantasy horror film “The Piper” Friday took in more than 150,000 viewers its first day of release. The film topped the box office, beating “Northern Limit Line” and Hollywood Blockbusters “Terminator Genisys” and “Insidious 3.”

The film is directed by Kim Gwang-tae, with a motif from a famous German folktale “The Pied Piper of Hamelin.” It is set in a fictional isolated village in the 1950s. One day, a man and his son get lost in the woods and end up in the village where the secret lies.
