The new KBS drama “Assembly” will be a realistic political drama and “not a drama about love blossoming in the National Assembly” its cast and producers said Thursday.

At the event announcing the drama’s production, cast and staff of the project said that “Assembly” will realistically portray Korean politics, aided by writer Jung Hyun-min’s experience as a lawmaker’s aide.

According to reports, Jung spent more than 10 years working as an aide to a lawmaker in the National Assembly.

The drama stars actress Song Yun-ah and actors Jung Jae-young and Park Yeong-gyu along with Ok Taecyeon of boy band 2PM.

The drama follows simple but upstanding lawmaker Jin Sang-pil, played by Jung.

“I am curious about how the public views the National Assembly. The focus is on the differences in the viewpoint,” director Hwang In-hyuk said.

Hwang, however, denied that the drama’s characters are based on real life politicians.
